Facetime with Google Video, Voice Chat for Android Phones, Tablets
This is good news for android mobile users who use Google Chat for connecting with friends, colleagues etc. as now you can video and voice chat with anyone in your contacts in Google directly from your Android phone.
The user on the other end can be using Google video and voice chat from his/her Android device or a computer, mac which supports Google’s video chat.
How to Video Chat with Google Talk on Android
Follow the step below to use Google voice and video chat on your android phone, tablet…
Step 1 : Tap the Google Talk icon on the Home screen or from the Launcher menu.
Step 2 : If you’re not signed in, and after you login at first your Friends list is displayed. (this friend list shows all friends you’ve added by using Google Talk online, or previously on your phone, or with any similar desktop application).
Step 3 : A video or voice chat button icon will be shown next to the contact who is online on a supporting device for Google video and voice chat. Simply touch this button icon to start video chatting with them.
If the user doesn’t have a webcam and has an audio device only you will still be able to voice chat with them like you do on Google talk on the web through your PC microphone.
Step 4 : During a video chat :
- Touch the screen to reveal the video chat buttons.
- Touch the Microphone video chat button to mute or unmute your microphone.
- Use your phone’s Volume buttons to control the volume of the speakers during your video chat.
- Touch the Text video chat button to switch to text chatting: you can chat by voice at the same time but video is paused.
- Touch the Camera video chat button to switch between your phone’s front and back cameras (on supported devices, just like facetime in iphone 4, ipad 2).
Step 5 : Press Menu key and tap Friends list to return to the screen in step 2 showing you the list of friends online on Google talk. You can add a friend to the current discussion or chat with another friend.
Step 6 : Once you are finished with voice, video chat, tap the X button on the top right to close and go back to your friend list.
You can also invite your friends for Google video chat from your android phone. Just tap the microphone button to the right of a friend’s name to invite him/her to video chat with you. Once they accept it the video chat icon will appear and follow step 3.
During a video chat, any text entry from the person you’re voice or video chatting with will be overlaid on your android phone’s display screen so that you won’t have to leave the video to read them.
Also, if you want to check other stuff on your android phone, apps etc the video pauses automatically. Go back to the android home screen or app. The audio will keep going so that you can continue with voice chat. So that you can talk and do stuff momentarily at the same time.
